Peters Township’s Natalie Wetzel averaged nearly a double-double this winter for a WPIAL champion, showing off basketball skills that filled stat sheets.
What might’ve gone less noticed was her senior leadership on the championship team that started two freshmen. But she said this was an easy group for the team captains to lead.
“For sure,” Wetzel said. “Starting in the beginning of the season, we all had the same goal. We all wanted that WPIAL championship. We all knew what we had to do. We had to work hard and come to play every single practice and every single day.”
A 6-foot-3 forward, Wetzel did her part by averaging 18.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. She led Peters Township to a 40-36 victory over South Fayette in the WPIAL Class 5A final.
Wetzel’s success makes her the 2025 TribLive HSSN Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
The Miami (Fla.) recruit will graduate with 1,692 career points, 806 rebounds, 235 assists and 125 blocks.
Wetzel talks with TribLive HSSN’s Don Rebel about Peters Township’s success, her role as a senior leader and more on the Rebel Yell Podcast.
