In a rematch of last year’s WPIAL Class AAA Quarterfinals matchup in which Butler upset Seneca Valley, the Raiders found some revenge and helped solidify their No. 1 ranking in AAA by shutting out the Golden Tornado, 2-0.
After 10 minutes of inconsistent play on both sides, Seneca Valley found its groove by striking first with 22:24 left to go in the first half. Following a set piece outside the 18-yard box on the right side, Macen DiPalo found the back of the net after the initial shot by a fellow Raider fired a shot off the right post. That allowed DiPalo to have an open net, outside of one or two bodies in front of the net.
After a 1-0 halftime score, it didn’t take long for the Raiders to double their lead. After Adam Mascio dribbled the ball all the way down to the end line, Tommy Washington finished a short cross with a sliding goal to make it 2-0. Seneca Valley’s defense was stout, allowing Butler to tally only two shots on the afternoon.
With the win, the Raiders move to 6-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in Section 2-AAA at will head to Kiski Area on Monday for a AAA non-section matchup.
