The Central Valley Lady Warriors are playoff bound! Coach Josh Springer’s squad clinched a playoff berth with a Section 2-AA victory over Ambridge in straight sets 25-17, 25-16, 25-21.
Central Valley jumped to early leads in each of the first two sets, never trailing in either of the opening sets. The Lady Warriors capitalized on early miscues from the Lady Bridgers. Balen Brown was the main beneficiary, tallying five of her match-high 11 kills in the first set.
The visiting Lady Bridgers woke up in the third set and jumped to a 10-4 lead. Sophia Spiridonakas had five service aces, all in the third set, for an Ambridge team that was on fire. However, Central Valley kept their cool and methodically reeled in their opposition. The Lady Warriors scored nine straight points under the crafty serving of Hanna Vetovich to retake the lead 16-14, and held on to win 25-21 to cap off the straight set victory.
Brown’s 10 kills came with only one hitting error in the match. Her supporting cast of Christina Kent (six kills, five blocks), Stephanie Stajduhar (5 kills) and Kaleah Jones (four kills, three blocks) helped fuel the diverse Warriors offensive attack. Vetovich supplied four aces as well as a night full of beautiful setting for Central Valley.
Spiridonakas had nine kills for Ambridge (4-6) to go along with her five aces. Brianna Clark supplied five blocks for the Lady Bridgers as well.
Central Valley moves to 7-2 in section play, trailing only undefeated Montour.they have a key matchup next week against Quaker Valley that will likely be a battle for second place in Section 2-AA. They also have matches remaining against section foes Lincoln Park and Freedom before the playoff run begins.
Congratulations to Coach Springer and the Central Valley Lady Warriors volleyball team, and good luck in the WPIAL Playoffs!
