Tuesday night brought forth an incredibly emotional and hard fought volleyball match as the undefeated Fort Cherry Rangers traveled to Bishop Canevin to take on the Crusaders. Bishop Canevin came into the match at 11-1 in the section, with their only loss coming earlier in the year at Fort Cherry, where they were swept 3-0 in straight sets. Things turned out quite differently on Tuesday as Bishop Canevin rallied behind it’s home crowd and took down the Rangers in 5 exciting sets 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 15-9)

Bishop Canevin took the lead in all 5 sets of this match, earning an ace as the first point in three of those sets. They seemed to have an emotional touch to the first two sets. Every team member was picking each other up and Senior Paris Morinville was terrific at the service line picking up four aces in the first set. The real spotlight story for Canevin was Freshman Alexa Malloy. She seemed to step up anytime she was called upon. Malloy started every set as the teams first server and continuously came up with clutch kills that put pressure on the opponent. Although Morinville and Malloy shined in those first two sets, there were key contributions from all of the Crusaders as they took the first two sets and seemingly had Fort Cherry beat. The Rangers had other plans though.

Sets 3 and 4 went to Fort Cherry. They never backed down. Bishop Canevin started to press and Fort Cherry played loose, even knowing that a lost set would result in their first loss of the season. They rallied behind stellar play Hannah Greene. She had 18 kills by nights end and seemed to be the vocal and physical leader of the team. Shannon Relihan also came up clutch. The Senior had 7 of her 11 kills in the span of those sets. The Rangers looked like the team with all of the momentum heading into set number five as they totally flipped the script and even things up at two sets a piece.

Bishop Canevin realized this was their opportunity at a share of Section 3 in Class A. They stepped up when it mattered most and took down Fort Cherry 15-9. Malloy started and ended the set as the server and had 3 aces. All in all, she finished with 18 kills and 6 aces on the night. Kylie Airesman had 10 kills and Paris Morinville finished with 8 in a total team effort. The Crusaders evened up the Rangers with this win. They each sit at 12-1 in the section with one match to play. Should they both win those matches, the section title will be shared.
