It was not to be for the Vincentian Academy Royals as the two time WPIAL champions fell to the Tri-Valley Bulldogs 59-42 at the GIANT Center in Hershey in the PIAA Class A Girls Basketball title game. Jili Weber and Tara Nahodil each scored 19 points as the District 11 champions claimed their first PIAA title.

Tri-Valley pulled away in the second half, using a 12-0 run to end the third quarter, Vincentian Academy trailed by two points at 33-31 but did not score again in the frame. Nahodil scored 10 points in the quarter, she matched her season average of 18.5 points per game.

Vincentian Academy led 15-11 after one quarter on the strength of Abbey Bartoszewicz’s eight points, including a pair of threes. But Tri-Valley took over the game on the floor during the second quarter, forcing a number of turnovers and fouls. The Bulldogs could not hit free throws, however, going 6 of 15 in the second, allowing Vincentian Academy to stay in the game.

That changed in the third quarter as Tri-Valley started dumping the ball down low to Nahodil, the 6-4 Seton Hall recruit added eight rebounds and four blocked shots to her points. Tri-Valley used an 11-0 run early in the fourth to cement the win and bring the gold basketball to the Bulldogs trophy case.

The Bulldogs shot 72 percent in the second half, they were 21 of 40 in the game for 52 percent, they also were 15 of 25 from the line. Weber had 9 rebounds, Taylor Troutman scored 12 points and grabbed six boards.

Sophomore Brenna Wise led the Royals with a double-double, 18 points and 18 rebounds. Abbey Bartoszewicz scored 10 points. The Royals shot 29 percent from the field on 17 of 58, they were just 3 of 14 from behind the arc. Vincentian Academy, mainly on the efforts of Wise, won the battle of the boards 36-31. The Royals finish 29-2, they committed 22 turnovers.
