District College Football Preview for Saturday, October 20

Conference play continues on all levels, the focus will be on the PSAC with 2 big games this weekend. Can Waynesburg continue their unbeaten ways and move into the D-III top 25, or will the high-flying Geneva offense spoil those plans.

Here are previews of ALL the games, including 3 that can be heard right here on the Network:

Edinboro(3-3) at Slippery Rock(3-4)  2pm on 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports Network
Both teams sit at 2-2 in the PSAC West Division.

The Fighting Scots fell 26-10 to IUP last week. All three losses for Edinboro have come to nationally ranked teams.

Cody Harris was held to just 185 yards passing, he did hit Seth Hembree for a 6 yard touchdown, capping a 19 play drive. Harris is 5th in the PSAC in passing, averaging 272 yards per game.  

Nick Hall had to enter the game at tailback, he became the 5th player used this season, the Fighting Scots have lost 3 to injury.

Marcus Johnson is 7th in the conference in receiving with 36 catches for 429 yards and 4 touchdowns.

S Kenny Pettis made 13 tackles, the 5th game this season that he has made 10 or more tackles. Pettis is tied for the lead in the PSAC at 78 stops.

Slippery Rock ended a 3 game losing streak with a 28-20 win over Clarion last week. QB Nigel Barksdale was named PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week. Barksdale threw for 257 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for another in his 2nd career start.

The Rock is averaging 34 points per game and allowing 32.

Akeem Satterfield is 8th in the PSAC with 575 yards rushing, an average of 82 yards per game.

Gary Allen is 8th in the conference at 8 tackles per game. Jeff Thompson leads the team with 3.5 sacks.

Isiah Coleman of the Rock and James Jackson of Edinboro are tied for the PSAC lead with 3 interceptions. Anthony Saunders has 2 picks for the Rock.

SRU leads the series 48-23-7, the Rock has won the last 2 games.
 

Saint Vincent(0-6) at W & J(5-2)  2pm on WJPA 1450-AM and the MSA Sports Network

The Bearcats are 0-4 in PAC play, falling to Geneva 30-22 last week.

Saint Vincent is running the 2 quarterback system. Andy Borgen led the team in rushing with 78 yards, including a 51 yard touchdown run. Matt Deakins threw for 155 yards.

Matt Duffey had 6 catches for 80 yards, Ricky Douglas was held without a catch for the first time in 25 games.
 

Saint Vincent is last in the PAC, averaging just 12 points per game.
 

Freshman LB Renny Larue-Holloman made 11 tackles, forced a fumble and picked off a pass last week.

W & J is 4-1, one game back of Waynesburg for the conference lead. The Presidents defeated Westminster 24-21 last week.
 

Dion Weigand ran for 79 yards and a score, he also caught 6 passes for 79 yards.
 

Matt Bliss was 25-44 for 312 yards and a touchdown, he also ran for a score. It was the 3rd time Bliss threw for 300 yards in a game. Bliss is 3rd in the PAC in passing at 199 yards per game, he has thrown for 1,395 yards with 7 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
 

Hunter Creel caught 8 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. Alex Baroffio has 49 catches for 402 yards, he leads the PAC in receiving. Creel is 6th with 33 catches.
 

Ian Hennessy made 13 tackles to lead the Presidents in the win.
 

W & J is the most penalized team in the PAC, at 47. Both teams have turned the ball over, W & J is minus 4 and Saint Vincent is minus 5 in turnover ratio. 
 

Waynesburg(7-0) at Geneva(2-4)  4pm on WBVP 1230-AM and the MSA Sports Network
The Yellow Jackets are alone in first place in the PAC with a 5-0 record, one game ahead of W & J. It's the first time Waynesburg is 7-0 since 2007.
 

Waynesburg came from behind to defeat Bethany 23-21 last week. Bertrand Ngampa was named ECAC Southwest Offensive Player of the Week, running for 206 yards on 19 carries and 2 touchdowns. He was also named the PAC Offensive Player of the Week. Ngampa is 4th in the PAC in rushing.
 

Alex Henry nailed a 26 yard field goal in the final minute for the win.
 

Carter Hill has filled in the last two weeks at quarterback, Tyler Fatigante is injured, but did return to the lineup to play wide receiver.
 

Domenic Moore ran for 97 yards on 24 carries last week. Moore is 7th in the PAC rushing race.
 

TE Adam Moses has 5 touchdowns on the season.
 

S Bryan Gary made 13 tackles. Gary is 5th in the PAC with 68 stops.
 

Waynesburg leads the PAC in scoring defense at 15.4 points per game.
 

Geneva sits at 2-2 in the PAC standings, coming off a 30-22 victory over Saint Vincent last week. The Golden Tornadoes committed 4 turnovers in the win.
 

Rocco Colavecchia scored 2 more touchdowns, he has 10 scores in the last 3 weeks.  Colavecchi$ is 2nd in the PAC in rushing at 82 yards per game, he leads the PAC with 15 touchdowns.
 

QB Zack Hayward is 2nd in the PAC at 228 yards per game passing. Hayward has thrown for 1,370 yards with 10 touchdowns and just 4 picks.
 

Geneva has 3 of the top 10 receivers in the PAC, Jordan Curry has 35 catches, Corey O'Patchen has 30 and Colavecchia has 24.
 

Kicker Bryan Visingardi made 3 field goals and was named PAC Special Teams Player of the Week. 
 

Dillion Goodell is 2nd in the PAC with 62 tackles. Brett Hutira has 53 stops.
 

The Golden Tornadoes lead the PAC in scoring offense at 31 points per game. But the GT's are next to last in the conference in scoring defense, allowing over 36 points per game. Geneva leads in total offense, Waynesburg leads in total defense.
 

Sacred Heart(2-4) at Duquesne(4-2)  Noon
Sacred Heart is 1-2 in the NEC. The Pioneers defeated Dartmouth 27-10 last week. Sacred Heart took 3 of the 4 NEC weekly awards in the win. LB Justin Sexton earned Defensive Player of the Week, making 13 tackles. Sexton leads the conference with 68 stops. Punter Robert Shepherd was named Special Teams Player of the Week and LB Kellen Sperduto gained Rookie of the Week honors.
 

The Dukes are 2-1 in the NEC after an upset loss to Central Connecticut State 38-31 last week. Duquesne played without leading rusher Larry McCoy. Despite missing the game, McCoy still leads the NEC, averaging 124 yards per game.
 

Sean Patterson is 2nd in the NEC in passing at 214 yards per game. Patterson has thrown for 1,287 yards with 9 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. Gianni Carter has made 33 catches and Noel Oduho has 28, they are 3rd and 4th in the league in catches. Sean Brady has 26 catches, he is 7th in the conference.
 

Duquense leads the NEC with a plus 7 turnover margin.
 

Wagner(3-3) at Saint Francis(3-4)
Wagner is 3-1 in the NEC, coming off last week's bye. QB Nick Doscher is 6th in the NEC in passing at 684 yards this season, with 3 touchdowns and just 1 interception.

The Red Flash are 2-2 in conference play, falling to league leader Albany 36-13.
 

Keion Wade is the 4th leading rusher in the NEC at 95 yards per game, QB John Kelly is 8th at 65 yards rushing. Kelly has thrown for 702 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Central Connecticut State(1-5) at Robert Morris(1-5)
CCSU is 1-2 in the NEC, the Blue Devils upset Duquesne 38-31 last week. Rob Holloman ran for 164 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries in last week's win. Holloman's performance was the highest rushing total for CCSU in over 2 years.
 

QB Andrew Clements threw for 188 yards and ran for 71, he accounted for 3 touchdowns. Holloman is 6th in the NEC in rushing, Clements is 10th.

Robert Morris is 0-3, falling to Bryant 38-35. LB Nolan Neerhoof notched 3 sacks last week, he becomes the first player at RMU to garner more than 20 sacks in a career, with 21.5. Evan Taylor continues to shine, going for 105 yards on 18 carries last week, he is 7th in the conference rushing stats at 75 yards per game. Donte Jeter leads RMU with 18 catches. 
 

The Colonial offense is still struggling, even with the 35 points last week, RMU is still last in the NEC, averaging 15.5 points per game.

California(6-1) at Gannon(1-6)  Noon
The Vulcans are 4-0 in the PSAC West, tied for the top spot with Mercyhurst. Cal is ranked 14th in the latest AFCA Division II poll. Cal defeated Lock Haven last week 30-0.
 

Cody Schroeder made his first college start and threw for 3 touchdowns in the win. Lamont Smith and Cody Cook both ran for over 100 yards in the win. The Vulcans defense held the Bald Eagles to just 3 yards rushing.

Gannon is 0-4 in the PSAC West, the Golden Knights have dropped 6 straight games, falling 38-29 to Mercyhurst. Liam Nadler threw for 428 yards, breaking the school record. Quad Law made 8 catches, a career high. Jansen Jones and Abraham Ocasio both went over 100 yards receiving.

Clarion(3-4) at Lock Haven(0-7)  Noon
The Golden Eagles are 1-3 in the PSAC West, falling to Slippery Rock 28-20 last week. QB Ben Fiscus ran for 68 yards and a touchdown and threw for 287 yards and another score in the loss. Fiscus has thrown for 1,582 yards and 10 touchdowns, he has ran for 557 yards and 4 more scores. 
 

TB Bobby Thomas has missed the last 2 games due to injury, but he hopes to be in the lineup this week. DE Julian Howsare has only played in 6 games, he has 11 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. 
 

The Bald Eagles have lost 49 consecutive games, the longest current losing streak in all of NCAA football. The last win for Lock Haven was against Clarion in the final game of the 2007 season.
 

Clarion leads the series 43-16-1, and have won the last 4 games.
 

Mercyhurst(6-1)a at IUP(6-1)   1pm
The Lakers are 4-0 in the PSAC West and tied with Cal for the top spot. Mercyhurst has won 6 straight games.
 

Mercyhurst defeated Gannon last week to maintain their hold on a share of first place. S L.J. Stevens was named PSAC Defensive Player of the Week. Stevens recovered a fumble and picked off a pass, both led to Laker touchdowns. He would get into the scoring column as well, returning a kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown.
 

The Lakers defense had 5 sacks and 8 tackles for loss in the game, holding Gannon to just 11 yards rushing. $
 

RB Brandon Brown-Dukes ran for 192 yards on 30 carries, he scored a touchdown, giving 10 for the season. Brown-Dukes is third in the PSAC in rushing. Allen Jones II is 7th.
 

IUP is 3-1 in the PSAC West, one game back. The Crimson Hawks are ranked 20th in the AFCA Division II poll this week.
 

The Crimson Hawks defeated Edinboro 26-10 last week. Harvie Tuck ran for 178 yards and 2 scores, the 5th time he has gone over 100 yards this season. Tuck is now 2nd on the all-time IUP rushing chart.
 

LB Alexander Berdahl made 15 tackles and a sack to lead the IUP defense. IUP has only allowed an average of 9.3 points per game this season. The Crimson Hawks lead the conference in every major catigory.

Seton Hill(0-7) at Fairmont State(2-4)  2pm
Seton Hill is 0-5 in the WVIAC. The Griffins have dropped 9 straight games, dating back to last season. Seton Hill fell to Concord 29-26 last week. Andrew Jackson threw for 265 yards and 4 touchdowns, Niko Hall Brown had 8 catches for 134 yards, Mike Allen caught 2 td passes.
Jackson has done a good job stepping in for Ryan Morris, who threw for 1,236 yards over the first 6 games.
 

Fairmont State is 2-2 in conference play, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan 49-32 last week. Bobby Vega threw for 275 yards and 5 touchdowns, 3 to Matt Wilmer, who notched 165 receiving yards. Daniel Monroe ran for 147 yards and a score, he is 3rd in the conference in rushing with 433 yards. Vega leads the WVIAC in passing at 1,390 yards.
 

Bethany(1-5) at Westminster(2-3)  1pm
Both teams are 1-3 in the PAC.
 

Matt Grimard needs 30 completions to break the all-time Bethany mark, he already leads the Bison program for total yards. Bethany fell to Waynesburg 23-21 last week. The Bisons 3 conference losses have been by a total of 8 points. Johnathan Foster caught 10 passes, Ed Holmes had 8 catches for 121 yards and 2 scores. LB Kyle Arrington made 14 tackles in the loss. 
 

Westminster lost to W & J 24-21 last week. All 3 of the Titans' losses have been by 4 points or less.
 

QB Dak Britt threw for 158 yards and ran for 93, including a 61 yard touchdown, Britt is 4th in the PAC in total offense.
 

Westminster leads the all-time series 35-11-2.
 

Thomas More(3-3) at Grove City(3-3) 1:30pm
The Saints are 3-2 in the PAC, two games back of Waynesburg for the lead.
 

DB Alex Taylor was named PAC Defensive Player of the Week, making 14 tackles in a win over Thiel last week. DB Zach Autenrieb had 29 career interceptions, he needs one more to set the D-III career record.
 

QB Jensen Gebhardt threw for 125 yards and 2 td's, he also ran for a score. Adam Rauch also added a touchdown. $
 

Grove City is 2-3 in the PAC. This week begins a home stretch for the Wolverines, with 3 of the final 4 games at home.
 

Shane Kaclik leads the PAC with 691 yards rushing, averaging 115 yards per game, he has 10 touchdowns.
 

Marc Shamley leads the league with 4 fumble recoveries. Joe Diani is 2nd in the conference with 4 interceptions.
 

Thomas More leads the series 6-1 and had won 4 straight games.
 

Ohio Wesleyan(6-0) at Carnegie Mellon(5-1)  2pm
Ohio Wesleyan comes off a 33-14 win over Kenyon last week. Mike McKensie kicked 4 field goals in the win. Justin Segal made 14 tackles in the win.
 

The Tartans come off a bye, they have dropped the last 5 games after a bye. QB Rob Kalkstein has been putting up some numbers this season. Kalkstein threw for 314 yards in a win over DePauw, the first CMU QB to throw for 300 or more yards since 1993. The junior from Gateway also has 5 touchdown passes of 50 yards or more this season. Kalkstein has thrown for 1,411 yards with 12 touchdowns and just 1 interception.
 

Patrick Blanks has ran for 497 yards this season and scored 9 touchdowns.
 

Wittenberg(5-1) at Allegheny(4-2)  2pm
The Tigers are 2-1 in the NCAC, but ranked 23rd in the AFCA D-III poll.
Wittenberg defeated Chicago 41-17 last week. Reed Florence threw for 347 yards and  4 touchdown passes in the win. Jimmy Dehnke ran for 3 scores, notching 128 yards on 21 carries.
 

Allegheny is 3-0 in the conference, one half game back of Ohio Wesleyan. The Gators held on to defeat DePauw 22-20 when Colin Hartford intercepted the two point conversion attempt with 37 seconds left.
 

Bill Devlin made 15 tackles in the win, he was named NCAC Defensive Player of the Week.
 

Tyler Smith leads the Gators with 176 yards rushing, he is out for this game, Tim Werley will start in the backfield with 157 yards on the season and 2 touchdowns
