Welcome to Week 5 of the high school football season. Chick's Picks was thrilled to learn that Wilkinsburg finally claimed its 500th win last week, 26-21 over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. After spending some time celebrating with the Tigers, Chick's Picks took some time to reflect on her own 500th win–a correct prediction of Aliquippa over Freeport in Week 2 of the 2003 season.

Only three seasons into her young prognosticating career, Chick's Picks knew she could not go wrong picking the Quips at the Pit. That same season, Aliquippa went on to win both the WPIAL and PIAA championships. Surely, her good prognosticating karma went a long way in the success of the Quips that season. Chick's Picks can only hope that she portrays that same stroke of luck onto Wilkinsburg this season.

Last week, Chick's Picks finished with a 54-14 (79%) record–her best of the season to date–bringing her season total to 194-78 (71%). Here are this week's big games:

CLASS AAAA
#1 Pittsburgh Central Catholic (4-0) at Penn Hills (2-2)

The Vikings meet the Indians in Big East play Friday night. Pittsburgh Central Catholic, after knocking off Woodland Hills last week, 24-7, sits atop the conference and the Class AAAA rankings. That win marked their second this season at the Wolvarena, after knocking off Akron Buechtel in Week 1 during the Rally at the Wolvarena. Penn Hills will face a daunting task this week, after thumping Plum, 28-14, and currently shares second place in the conference with Fox Chapel. The Indians have been outscored by their opponents 77-114 so far this season. The Vikings have posted 131 points while allowing an impressive 30. Chick's Picks thinks the Indians need a big win to get over the hump in the Big East, but they won't get it this week.

CLASS AAA
#5 New Castle (3-1) at #1 Montour (4-0)

Parkway Conference action takes center stage in McKees Rocks Friday night as the top-ranked Spartans host the Red Hurricane. Canon-McMillan fell victim to Montour last week, 42-14, while New Castle edged Belle Vernon 32-20. The Red Hurricane have quietly worked their way to a near perfect season so far., despite a loss to Central Valley in Week 3. The Spartans have been impressive on offense, averaging 42 points per game. New Castle has outscored Montour 55-12 in the last two meetings. The Spartans have not picked up a win against the Red Hurricane since 2007. Chick's Picks thinks that will change this time around.

CLASS AA
#9 Freeport (3-1) at #7 Ford City (4-0)

The Yellowjackets take on the Sabers Friday night in a game that could determine a clear-cut leader in the Allegheny Conference. Freeport is coming off a 24-6 win over Burrell last week. Ford City stomped a struggling Shady Side Academy, 26-3. The Sabers have dominated the last decade of meetings with the Yellowjackets, winning eight of ten matchups, and outscoring Freeport 235-101. The Yellowjackets claimed last year's meeting, however, 6-0. Ford City's
