Moon Nips Mars to Repeat as WPIAL Girls 3-A Soccer Champs

As a full moon gleamed upon Highmark Stadium, the Moon Tigers won their second straight Girls Soccer WPIAL Championship. Moon defeated Mars 3-2 and handed the Planets just their second loss of the season.
Moon came into the contest on a 38 game winning streak and had only let up 5 goals all season. The closest game of the year for Moon was a 2-0 victory over rival Montour.
The Mars Planets also boasted great numbers heading into the championship contest as they only allowed 3 goals during the regular season but did let up 2 during the playoffs. Mars focuses on a total team effor as 4 players have 14 goals or more.
This was the first meeting between the two teams this season and it was competitive from the beginning minutes. Miami of Ohio commit, and Moon senior, Delany Snyder scored the games first goal in the opening minutes of the first half. With that goal, Snyder tallied her 45th goal of the season.
Mars forward Caroline Wroblewski tallied her 14th goal of the season a few moments later and tied the score at 1-1.
At the 21:08 mark in the second half, Moon midfielder Abigael McEnroe gave the Tigers the lead once again.
The game would be quickly tied again thanks to a goal coming from Mars forward Taylor Hamlett at the 16:02 mark in the second half.
The game winning goal came with 4:14 left in the contest thanks to a header from Moon defender Kylee Evans.
The Tigers and Planets will begin play for the state championship next week . Mars ends its WPIAL season 16-2 and Moon advanced to 22-0.
