Highlights of the week ahead in Westmoreland County high school sports:

MONDAY

Girls golf

• The second annual Westmoreland County Coaches Association girls golf championship will be at Hannastown Golf Club. The event is nine holes and features more than 30 of the county's top players, including junior Abby Zambruno of Greensburg Central Catholic, the county runner-up last season.

Girls soccer

• Top-ranked Norwin hits the road to open Section 4-4A play at Latrobe, Hempfield hosts Kiski Area, and Penn-Trafford visits Connellsville. All games begin at 7:30 p.m. Norwin has not lost in section play since 2013.

• In Section 3-2A, Derry hosts Southmoreland.

• No. 2-ranked Greensburg Central Catholic looks for section win No. 83 in a row as it hosts Serra Catholic, and Riverview is at Jeannette in another Section 1-A game.

Hockey

• The PIHL season is just around the corner, and the Greensburg Central Catholic preseason tournament is getting 10 teams ready for the start of the season. Tournament action continues at Kirk S. Nevin Arena with Thomas Jefferson and South Fayette at 7:15 p.m., followed by South Park vs. GCC at 8:45.

TUESDAY

Girls volleyball

• Two of the top teams in the county meet for an early-season Section 3-4A showdown as Hempfield hosts Penn-Trafford at 7 p.m. Hempfield is ranked No. 4 and Hempfield No. 10 in the Western Pa. Coaches Class 4A preseason poll.

• Greensburg Central Catholic, No. 4 in Class A, plays at No. 9 Vincentian.

Boys soccer

• Three notable games in Section 3-4A, all at 7:30 p.m., include Latrobe at Kiski Area, Norwin at No. 2 Franklin Regional and No. 3 Penn-Trafford at Connellsville. Franklin Regional and Connellsville grabbed early control of the section, but look for Penn-Trafford and Norwin to prove their worth quickly.

• Hot-starting Belle Vernon, ranked No. 3 in 3A, travels to Laurel Highlands to open Section 3-3A play, and in Section 2-2A, Mt. Pleasant gets a stern road test at Shady Side Academy.

WEDNESDAY

Girls soccer

• Section 4-4A has Hempfield at Penn-Trafford and Connellsville at Norwin.

• Class 2A No. 3 Yough travels to Derry in Section 3, while No. 2 GCC plays host to rival Shady Side Academy, ranked No. 1, in Section 1-A (6 p.m.).

THURSDAY

Boys golf

• The 13th annual WCCA boys golf tournament will begin at 9 a.m. at Latrobe Elks. Franklin Regional junior Palmer Jackson is the defending champion. Latrobe junior Brady Pevarnik is expected to contend as well.

Boys soccer

• Section 3-4A continues to serve up great matchups. The schedule shows Connellsville at Norwin, Franklin Regional at Hempfield and Kiski Area at Penn-Trafford, all with 7:30 p.m. starts.

• Greensburg Central Catholic hosts Geibel in a Section 2-A game at 6 p.m.

Girls soccer

• Hempfield visits Greensburg Salem, while Mt. Pleasant visits Southmoreland and Penn-Trafford is at Franklin Regional. All three nonsection games are set for 7:30.

Girls volleyball

• A Section 3-4A match to watch is Penn-Trafford at Norwin (7 p.m.).

Hockey

• The GCC preseason tournament continues with two more games: Hempfield vs. Elizabeth Forward at 7:15 p.m. and Greensburg Salem vs. Norwin at 8:45 at Nevin Arena.

FRIDAY

Football

• Norwin will get a formidable road test at Bethel Park in a Class 6A Southeastern Conference game. Greensburg Salem, meantime, will try to take down top-ranked Thomas Jefferson in a Class 4A Big Nine clash at Offutt Field.

• Other top local games include Derry at Southmoreland, McGuffey at Mt. Pleasant, and 5A No. 2 Penn-Trafford at Woodland Hills (nonconference).

SATURDAY

Football

• Class A No. 2 Jeannette takes its unbeaten record on the road for the first of back-to-back Saturday games. The Jayhawks take on Riverview at noon at Riverside Park in Oakmont in an Eastern Conference game.

Boys soccer

• Hempfield at Connellsville (2 p.m.), Norwin at Kiski Area (3:30) and Penn-Trafford at Latrobe (7:30) are games to watch in Section 3-4A.

• Mt. Pleasant will look to take down Section 2-2A leader Freeport on the road at 10 a.m.

Girls volleyball

• The Derry Tournament begins at 8 a.m.

Hockey

• A tripleheader highlights the GCC preseason tournament at Nevin Arena. South Fayette takes on Penn-Trafford at 6:45 p.m., followed by GCC and West Allegheny at 8:05, and South Park vs. Hempfield at 9:45 p.m.
