Former Gateway boys basketball coach Adams dies at 59

Former Gateway boys basketball coach Mitch Adams, 59, died Wednesday at UPMC East Hospital in Monroeville, because of complications after an operation. Adams, who lived in Trafford, coached Gateway to WPIAL Class AAAA titles in 2011 and '12.
He had a 134-88 record. His team also made the finals in 2010. He resigned in 2014.
He also was an assistant football coach at Gateway.
Adams owned a trophy shop and sporting goods store in Trafford and was a baseball umpire assignor at various levels, including helping with the WPIAL playoff games.
He was a 1976 graduate of Gateway.
John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home in Trafford is handling funeral arrangements.
