With the volleyball season drawing to a close, the Fox Chapel girls are clinging to playoff hopes.

The Foxes, under coach Phil O'Keeffe, entered the week in fifth place in Section 4-AAAA with a 4-6 section mark and a 4-9 overall record.

Oakland Catholic leads the section with an 11-0 record, followed by Armstrong at 9-1, Plum at 6-4 and Kiski Area at 5-5. Fox Chapel closes out the season this week with matches against Plum and Kiski Area.

The Foxes lost to Plum, 3-0, earlier in the season and were edged by Kiski Area, 3-2.

Kill leaders for the Foxes this year are junior Megan Friday (54), junior Meredith Kenney (49), junior Jessica Michel (48), senior Katherine Chomko (34) and junior Erasmia Yager (34). Yager also leads the team in aces with 20, followed by senior Tessa Friday with 16. Tessa Friday also leads the team in digs with 111 while Kenney has 72.

“This season has gone pretty well,” O'Keeffe said. “Obviously, a couple of more wins would have been nice, but we're still in the mix for the playoffs. Coaching the girls has been a little bit of a learning experience for me. They are a great bunch of girls, and they work hard every day in practice. I'm looking forward to having a strong end to the season, with hopefully a playoff spot as well.”
