Pittsburgh high school roundup: Fox Chapel’s Nord, James defend section doubles title

Fox Chapel's Amanda Nord and Charlotte James defeated teammates Molly Wiese and Kristen Friday to capture the Section 3-AAA doubles championship, 6-0, 6-0, at Shady Side Academy.

It was the second straight section doubles championship for the Fox Chapel tandem. It is the fourth section title for Nord, who also has won three WPIAL doubles titles.

The WPIAL Class AAA doubles tournament begins Thursday at North Allegheny.

• In Section 4-AAA, Mt. Lebanon's Golda Gershanock and Katherine Izzo defeated Montour's Isabela Paixao and Isabella Sudowski, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3, to claim the doubles title.

• At Brady's Run Park, Neshannock's Crista Nativio and Abbey Demofonte defeated Beaver's Devyn Campbell and Sydni Lewis, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4, to win the Section 2-AA doubles crown.

• Sewickley Academy's Lydia Elste and Alina Mattson defeated Vincentian Academy's Olivia O'Brien and Gracie Waters, 6-1, 6-3, to capture the Section 4-AA doubles title at Nichols Field.

Girls soccer

Thomas Jefferson 4, Elizabeth Forward 1 — Ava Lutz, Mia Maksin, Linca Campano and Bella Sestito scored as Thomas Jefferson (15-3) won a nonsection game.

Boys soccer

Chartiers Valley 1, Seton LaSalle 0 — Nate Wood scored and James Moore posted his seventh straight shutout as Class AAA No. 2 Chartiers Valley (14-3) edged Class A No. 3 Seton LaSalle (15-2-1) in a nonsection game.

Charleroi 4, Bentworth 2 — Nick Laskey, Cullin Woytovich, Jake Kepich and Fernando Munoz scored to lift Charleroi (15-4) to a nonsection win. Wyatt Selvoski scored twice for Bentworth (12-6).
