Westmoreland roundup: Belle Vernon moves to 8-0 in Big 9 Conference

Logan Pfrogner scored on a 50-yard punt return and a 12-yard reception from Jared Hartman as No. 2 Belle Vernon beat West Mifflin, 35-7, in the WPIAL Class 4A Big 9 Conference.

The Leopards improved to 8-0 overall and in conference play.

Jaimere Loften scored on a 71-yard pass from Ziggy Patterson for West Mifflin (5-3, 4-3), whose playoff hopes are still alive.

Derry 47, Waynesburg 0 — The Trojans improved to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the Class 3A Interstate Conference with a blowout win over Waynesburg (1-7, 1-6).

Avella 18, Monessen 16 — Noah Taylor's 32-yard scoring pass to Owen English in the fourth quarter lifted Avella (1-8, 1-7) to its first win of the season by defeating Monessen (2-7, 1-5) in the Tri-County South Conference. English also ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Lyndon Henderson scored on a 38-yard pass from Darnel Howel, and Elijah Davis scored on a 66-yard touchdown run for the Greyhounds.

Central Catholic 35, Norwin 14 — Class 6A No. 3 Central Catholic (7-2) scored 14 points in both the first and third quarters in its nonconference win at Norwin (4-5). Brock Dieter rushed for both of Norwin's touchdowns.

North Allegheny 63, Hempfield 28North Allegheny improved to 7-2 with a nonconference win over Hempfield (1-8).

Justin Sliwoski completed 31 of 50 passes for 386 yards and four touchdowns and Braden Brose had 11 catches for 181 yards and four scores for Hempfield.

Jeannette 47, Mapletown 0 — Robert Kennedy threw for three touchdowns and returned an interception 42 yards for another score as Class A No. 1 Jeannette (9-0) blanked Mapletown (2-7) in nonconference play.

Jeannette scored 27 points in the first quarter and led 40-0 at halftime.

Beaver 42, Mt. Pleasant 13 — Brodie List threw for 154 yards on only three completions with two touchdowns in Class 3A No. 4 Beaver's nonconference win against Mt. Pleasant (3-6).

Gino Mavero added 101 rushing yards and a 78-yard touchdown for Beaver (7-2).

Jake Fazekas scored on a 19-yard run and a 3-yard pass from Lucas PIeszak for Mt. Pleasant.

Ligonier Valley 58, Purchase Line 0 — Aaron Sheeder rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns to lead first-place Ligonier Valley (9-0, 9-0) to the District 6 Heritage Conference shutout at Purchase Line (5-4, 5-4).

Aaron Tutino returned a punt 47 yards for a touchdown and added two rushing touchdowns.
