Brett Burger has come home.
The Allegheny Valley School Board on Monday hired the Springdale graduate as the Dynamos' next baseball coach.
Burger makes the transition after a year as coach at Highlands. He replaces Jim Hastings, who resigned at Springdale shortly after the season ended in May. Hastings was named the Fox Chapel coach in August.
“It was a tough decision because we kind of had a rebuilding plan going at Highlands,” Burger said.
“But this job is something I just couldn't pass up. It's exciting to be able to get back into the high school and be a part of the community again.”
Burger coached the junior high and junior varsity teams at Fox Chapel for six years before making the move to Highlands for the 2017 season.
The Golden Rams went 1-16 last spring with a 1-13 mark in Section 1-4A.
Springdale is coming off a season where it qualified for the playoffs in Section 1-A. The Dynamos posted a 4-6 mark in section play and were eliminated by Sewickley Academy in the WPIAL first round to conclude the campaign 5-10 overall.
“From what I understand, we should be pretty competitive this season,” Burger said. “I don't see why we can't return to the playoffs. My initial thoughts are to build up numbers and interest in the program and go from there.”
