High school roundup for Jan. 9: Central Catholic tops North Allegheny at buzzer

Cole Mason beat the buzzer and Central Catholic beat North Allegheny.

Mason's basket as time expired lifted the Vikings to a 50-48 victory over North Allegheny in a Section 1-6A boys basketball game Tuesday night in Oakland.

Luke Nedrow had 19 points and Maurice Shipman scored 16 for Central Catholic (6-5, 5-0).

Ray Sandherr and Anthony Hattrup each had 15 points for the Tigers (2-7, 0-4).

Pine-Richland 61, Seneca Valley 51 — Greg Shulkosky had 22 points and Daniel Petcash added 20 as No. 4 Pine-Richland (8-3, 3-1) won in Section 1-6A. David Ritchie had 15 points for Seneca Valley (8-3, 2-2).

Canon-McMillan 65, Connellsville 34 — Jason Fowlkes had 19 points as Canon-McMillan (9-1, 3-1) won in Section 2-6A. Jalen Rogers had 18 points for Connellsville (7-5, 2-3), which fell behind 35-13 at halftime.

Mt. Lebanon 66, Baldwin 43 — Hayden Mitchell had 25 points to lift No. 1 Mt. Lebanon (11-1, 4-0) to a Section 2-6A win. The Blue Devils closed on a 24-8 run.

Upper St. Clair 62, Peters Township 43 — Kyle Meinert, Brett Moore and Chris Pantelis all had 13 points as Upper St. Clair (7-5, 3-2) won in Section 2-6A.

Penn-Trafford 54, Fox Chapel 53 — Sean Kelly had 19 points, but it was his basket with 3.2 seconds left that sent the home fans into a frenzy.

Kelly's show in the final seconds lifted host Penn-Trafford to a victory over Fox Chapel in Section 3-6A.

Zach Rocco added 11 points for the Warriors (5-8, 2-3).

Domanic McGriff scored 20 points for Fox Chapel (8-4, 2-3).

Latrobe 80, Plum 61 — Reed Fenton tallied 21 points and Jason Armstrong had 17 as Latrobe (9-3, 4-1) picked up a Section 3-6A victory. Connor Moss had 18 points for Plum (5-7, 0-5).

Woodland Hills 85, Norwin 46 — Amante Britt had 36 points, including five 3-pointers, as No. 3 Woodland Hills (10-1, 5-0) won in Section 3-6A. Josh Ratesic had 13 points for the Knights (6-6, 1-4).

Penn Hills 63, Hempfield 57 — Davion Stephens scored 31 points and Cory Fulton had 17 to help No. 2 Penn Hills (13-0, 5-0) earned a narrow Section 4-6A decision.

Braden Brose poured in 22 points for the Spartans (4-8, 1-4).

McKeesport 81, Ringgold 56 — Terron Taylor had 29 points to lead McKeesport (5-6, 3-1) to a win in Section 1-5A. Layton Jordan added 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Chartiers Valley 46, Knoch 38 — Tyler Shaw's 19 points paced No. 4 Chartiers Valley (6-4, 3-1) in a Section 2-5A victory.

West Allegheny 79, Montour 64 — Isaiah Crowe scored 26 points and Jackson Faulk had 19 as West Allegheny (5-5, 3-1) secured a win in Section 2-5A.

Franklin Regional 67, Kiski Area 37 — Aidan Sadoski scored 15 points and Mike Bartolacci had 11 as Franklin Regional (9-2, 3-0) won in Section 3-5A. Ryne Wallace had 17 points for Kiski Area (0-11, 0-3).

Gateway 58, Armstrong 44 — John Paul Kromka had 23 points and Mark Bozicevic scored 20 as Gateway (5-6, 2-1) picked up a Section 3-5A win.

Freeport 68, Mt. Pleasant 30 — Ben Beale scored 20 points to guide Freeport (5-4, 1-2) to a win in Section 1-4A. Freeport led 23-4 in the first quarter. Ryan Quinn scored 13 points for Mt. Pleasant (1-11, 0-4).

Indiana 84, Yough 60 — Tommy Arbuckle scored 31 points as No. 4 Indiana (7-1, 3-0) won in Section 1-4A. Jarett Bach had 31 points for Yough (2-9, 0-3).

Ambridge 56, New Castle 53 — Aaron Hilzendeger had 22 points and Tay Lindsey added 19 as No. 3 Ambridge (9-2, 5-0) won in Section 2-4A. Georgie Eggleston had 12 points for No. 2 New Castle (8-3, 3-2).

Central Valley 56, Blackhawk 37 — Nico Refice had 20 points as Central Valley (6-4, 3-2) won in Section 2-4A.

Quaker Valley 77, Hopewell 46 — Coletrane Washington had 30 points, including six 3-pointers, as No. 1 Quaker Valley (8-0, 4-0) won in Section 2-4A.

Belle Vernon 64, McGuffey 53 — Griffin LaCarte had 15 points, Bryce Washington scored 14 and Joey Sabolek added 13 as Belle Vernon (8-3, 4-1) won in Section 3-4A. Trent Belleville scored 25 for McGuffey (9-3, 2-2).

Keystone Oaks 66, South Park 58 — Josh Snell had 19 points and Ryan Collins added 18 as Keystone Oaks (6-6, 3-2) won in Section 3-4A. Damon Smith scored 20 for South Park (5-5, 3-2).

Uniontown 95, Elizabeth Forward 56 — Billy Deshields had 29 points as Uniontown (6-5, 2-2) won in Section 3-4A.

Ellwood City 66, Mohawk 54 — Broc Boariu had 22 points, including six 3-pointers, and Sean Busby had 19 points and 16 rebounds as Ellwood City (10-3, 2-1) won a Section 1-3A game.

Lincoln Park 55, Aliquippa 32 — In Section 1-3A, Keeno Holmes had 25 points to guide No. 1 Lincoln Park (5-4, 2-0) past No. 2 Aliquippa (8-4, 1-1).

Avonworth 84, Freedom 78 — Jake Harper had 27 points to pace Avonworth (6-6, 2-1) in a Section 2-3A win.

Seton LaSalle 87, Carlynton 46 — Jakob Richardson had 23 points and Mike George IV scored 18 as No. 3 Seton LaSalle (7-3, 2-0) rolled to a Section 2-3A win.

Apollo-Ridge 60, South Allegheny 52 — Jake Fello had 18 points and connected on four 3-pointers for Apollo-Ridge (5-6, 1-1) in a Section 3-3A victory. Derek Lockhart scored 25 points for the Gladiators (7-5, 0-2).

Burrell 40, Steel Valley 36 — Logan Bitar scored 11 points and went 4 for 4 from the free throw line in the final 22 seconds to help Burrell (4-8, 2-0) seal a Section 3-3A win over Steel Valley (6-5, 1-2). The Bucs shut out the Ironmen, 9-0, in the third quarter to push their lead to 29-18 and held off a late rally.

South Side Beaver 72, Southmoreland 41 — Logan English scored 18 points as South Side Beaver (4-7, 3-1) won in Section 4-3A. Jason Szatkowski and Ronnie Robinson each had 10 points for Southmoreland (2-8, 1-3).

Washington 71, Burgettstown 58 — In Section 4-3A, Jordan Swart had 21 points to lead No. 4 Washington (6-3, 4-0) to victory.

Jeannette 71, Serra Catholic 70 (2OT) — Shamon Jackson hit a baseline jumper in double overtime to give Jeannette (6-1, 3-0) a Section 1-2A victory.

Anthony Johnson had 18 points, and Robert Kennedy and Tre Cunningham added 15 each for the Jayhawks.

Summit Academy 53, Riverview 50 — Noah Black set the pace with 21 points, including five 3-pointers, but Riverview (2-8, 0-3) dropped a close Section 1-2A game to Summit (2-7, 2-3).

OLSH 77, Neshannock 59 — Donovan Johnson's 22 points led the way for No. 2 OLSH (10-1, 5-0) in a Section 3-2A victory.

Sewickley Academy 71, Northgate 44 — Nate Ridgeway had 21 points as No. 1 Sewickley Academy (8-1, 4-0) rolled to a win in Section 3-2A.

Monessen 107, Mapletown 15 — Lyndon Henderson had 32 points as No. 5 Monessen (3-5, 2-0) won in Section 2-A.

Winchester Thurston 67, St. Joseph 56 — Grant Bendis scored 27 points, but St. Joseph fell to Winchester Thurston (2-4, 1-1) in a Section 3-A game. Andrew Sullivan also scored 14 for St. Joseph (3-7, 0-2). Igor Karusewicz led Winchester Thurston with 23 points.

Cornerstone Christian Prep 55, Cheswick Christian Academy 23 — Will Dryburgh scored 10 points, but Cheswick Christian Academy (0-8) dropped the SWCAC game.

Girls basketball

Canon-McMillan 72, Baldwin 49 — Tamara Mathis had 23 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and eight steals to help Canon-McMillan (8-3, 1-2) to a Section 2-6A win.

Penn Hills 31, Hempfield 29 — Allison Podkul scored 12 points for Hempfield (4-7, 1-2), but the host Spartans fell short to Penn Hills (7-5, 2-2) in a Section 3-6A game.

Penn-Trafford 39, Fox Chapel 36 — In Section 3-6A, Bella Long's 16 points guided Penn-Trafford (6-5, 2-2) to victory.

Franklin Regional 49, Kiski Area 38 — Isabelle Palamone had 16 points and Noelle Boyd added 14 as Franklin Regional (7-5, 2-2) won in Section 4-5A.

Mars 62, Armstrong 53 — Lauren Wasylson had 27 points and surpassed 1,000 for her career as Mars (8-3, 4-0) earned a Section 4-5A win.

Plum 52, Indiana 42 — Kennedie Montue had 21 points to lead Plum (3-9, 1-3) to its first Section 4-5A win of the season. Kelsi Zik added 16 points for the Mustangs and sank five 3-pointers. Bailey Dills had 16 points for Indiana (3-7, 1-4).

East Allegheny 55, McKeesport 43 — Amani Johnson had 17 points and Amaia Johnson scored 14 to lead Class 3A No. 3 East Allegheny (11-0, 4-0) to a nonsection win.

Leechburg 71, Sto-Rox 35 — Mikayla Lovelace had 30 points and 11 rebounds to help Class 2A No. 4 Leechburg (8-2, 4-1) cruise to a Section 2 victory over Sto-Rox (6-4, 1-4). Brittany Robillio added 17 points for the Blue Devils.

West Greene 69, Monessen 22 — Madison Lampe had 15 points to pace No. 2 West Greene (10-0, 3-0) in a Section 2-A win. Qitarah Hardison had 11 points for Monessen (10-10, 0-3).

Bentworth 39, Yough 16 — Hailey Kellerman and Jenna Vito had 10 points apiece as Bentworth (3-8) won a nonsection game. Cara Rossetti had five points to lead Yough (0-11).

Blackhawk 63, Norwin 56 — Taylor Lambright's 15 points paced Blackhawk (10-0) in a nonsection win. Magen Polczynski had 19 points for the Knights (5-6).

Trinity 52, Thomas Jefferson 39 — Alayna Cappelli had 25 points and Riley DeRubo scored 20 as Class 5A No. 3 Trinity (10-3) won a nonsection game over Class 5A No. 1 Thomas Jefferson (10-2).

Cheswick Christian Academy 33, Cornerstone Christian 21 — Allyson Drake and Kelsey Kiger scored 10 points apiece to help Cheswick Christian Academy (5-2, 2-0) score a Southwest Christian Athletic Conference victory. Drake scored in double figures for the third consecutive game.

Hockey

Fox Chapel 11, Greensburg Central Catholic 1 — Willie Doyle had a hat trick, and Colby Zmenkowski, Chase Villani, Reed Troutman and Sam Stites added two goals apiece as Fox Chapel (6-6-1) cruised to a PIHL Class A victory over Greensburg Central Catholic (1-11-1). Sites had three assists and Zmenkowski had two helpers.
