Section wrestling finales among 3 things to watch Wednesday in WPIAL athletics

Wednesday marks the final night of section matches on the WPIAL wrestling schedule, and several head-to-head contests will decide sub-section winners.

Among them, in Class AA, sixth-ranked Quaker Valley visits third-ranked South Fayette, and the winner finishes first overall in Section 3A.

Both teams are 4-0.

Quaker Valley features John Rocco Kazalas (14-1), the top-ranked 132-pounder in the WPIAL. QV teammates Keegan Forsythe (14-3 at 170) and Geoff Magin (14-1 at 182) also are ranked individually.

South Fayette's Eli Brinsky (9-2) is second-best overall at 138 pounds. He's joined in the WPIAL rankings by teammates Joe Bastarolli (6-2 at 195), Mike Cusick (9-2 at 145) and Jake Walker (3-0 at 220).

Other first-place matches between undefeated teams include Armstrong at Kiski Area, Connellsville at Belle Vernon, Moon at West Allegheny, McGuffey at Beth-Center and Burrell at Valley.

WPIAL vs. City League in boys basketball

The WPIAL's top-ranked boys basketball team is scheduled to visit the city when Mt. Lebanon (13-1) travels to Allderdice (9-2) at 7:30 p.m.

Allderdice is tied with Westinghouse for first place in the City League.

Mt. Lebanon is ranked first in WPIAL Class 6A. Its only loss came in Texas.

Nonsection matchup pairs ranked 5A teams

The Moon and Trinity boys basketball teams are scheduled to meet for a nonsection matchup that won't affect the standings but could influence playoff seeds.

Both teams are ranked in WPIAL Class 5A with Moon (11-1) second and Trinity (10-3) fifth. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. at Moon.
