PIAA releases qualifying lists for state swimming championships

The PIAA on Tuesday released the automatic and at-large time qualifying lists for the Class AAA and AA swimming championships March 14 to 17 at Bucknell University.

The lists originally were to be posted Sunday afternoon, but bad weather postponed the completion of a couple of district championship meets on the eastern side of the state. That forced the PIAA to move to qualifiers release until Tuesday.

The AAA state meet will be March 14 and 15, with AA set for March 16 and 17.

The WPIAL AAA and AA championships concluded Friday with several new records established.

The top three AAA finishers and top four in AA automatically qualified for states.

The PIAA also selected additional qualifiers based on times recorded at the district and regional meets throughout the state. There will be 32 competing in each individual event and 24 for the relays.

Alternates for each event also were listed.

Every district is represented in each AA and AAA event with at least that district's champion.

The lists for the four diving competitions, also March 14 to 17 at Bucknell, are included. All of the participants automatically qualified at their district events.

The qualifying lists can be found at piaa.org/sports/championship_details.aspx?sport=swimming. The final seeding lists for each event will be released in the coming days after all the scratch decisions have been made.
