Winner plays: Sewickley Academy (22-4) vs. Ridgway (24-1) winner Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Players to watch: Tre Cunningham, 6-4, Sr., G, Jeannette; Noah Reisenauer, 6-1, Sr. Cambridge Springs.

Layup lines: Jeannette picked up its first win in the state playoffs since 2012 with a 63-45 victory over Purchase Line in the first round. Cunningham scored a game-high 20 points, sophomore Jackson Pruitt added a career-high 19 and senior do-it-all guard Robert Kennedy scored 16. … Junior guard Anthony Johnson, who averages 21 points and 6 assists, will return after missing Friday's opener because of a one-game suspension for receiving two technical fouls in the previous game. … The Jayhawks played one of their sharpest games of the season in the first round after a 10-day layoff, using crisp passing and pressure defense to build a large lead. … Jeannette is allowing just 48.9 points. … Jeannette has not been to the state quarterfinals since 2008 when it won the state title. … Cambridge Springs won its first PIAA game since 1998 with a 77-54 victory over Leechburg in the first round. … “The Spa,” as the school is referred to in local circles, is the second-place team from District 10 (Erie). … The Blue Devils feature towers in the post: 6-foot-8 seniors Turner Kurt and Reese Eakin. The pair combined for 38 points in the win over Leechburg, a team from Jeannette's section. Kurt had 24 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists and Eakin scored 14. Reisenauer, a talented shooting guard, scored 28 and handed out seven assists in the win. … Like Kennedy, Reisenauer is a skilled dual-threat quarterback and defensive back in football.
