Fresh off winning a national hurdles title, North Allegheny senior Ayden Owens was named as a finalist for MileSplit male athlete of the year for the indoor high school season.
The track and field website annouced five candidates.
The Southern Cal recruit won the 60-meter hurdles at New Balance Nationals Indoor on March 11 and placed second in the pentathlon a day earlier.
Along with Owens, MileSplit also picked middle-distance runner Josh Hoey, a fellow Pennsylvania athlete who’s from Bishop Shanahan in Downington. The three others are sprinter Brian Herron of Atlanta, Ga., sprinter Eric Allen Jr. of Potomac, Md., and middle-distance runner Brodey Hasty or Brentwood, Tenn.
