It's safe to say Monday's boys volleyball game between Fox Chapel and North Hills will be played as scheduled. But beyond that indoor matchup, the weather could play havoc on many other sports.

Western Pennsylvania baseball and softball fields received a soaking rain Sunday that was forecast to extend into Monday and could lead to postponements.

Lacrosse teams could brave rain

WPIAL lacrosse has busy schedule Monday including a Class 3A boys matchup between Mt. Lebanon and host Shady Side Academy at 7 p.m. Both teams reached the WPIAL semifinals last season. Mt. Lebanon finished as the WPIAL runner-up and Shady Side Academy placed third.

First-place baseball showdowns

Weather permitting, there are three first-place matchups between baseball teams with undefeated section records. In Section 2-5A, West Allegheny (3-0, 3-0) visits Moon (3-2, 3-2). In Section 2-3A, Riverside (5-1, 5-0) visits Avonworth (6-0, 4-0). In Class 1-A, Eden Christian (3-1, 3-0) hosts Union (4-1, 3-0).

Sorting out the standings

It's still early, but Section 1-6A baseball could start to take shape with three key matchups Monday. Currently, there's a four-way tie for fourth.

Central Catholic (5-3, 1-2) visits Butler (6-0, 3-0) at 7 p.m., Pine-Richland (6-2, 1-2) visits North Allegheny (5-2, 1-2) at 7 p.m., and Seneca Valley (4-4, 1-2) visits Shaler (4-4, 2-1) at 4 p.m.
