The last three years, Baldwin and Canon-McMillan have shared a section championship in softball. The two programs finished in a three-way tie for the section crown with Bethel Park in 2015, and the Big Macs and Highlanders shared first-place plaques in 2016 and ‘17.

The two South Hills powers meet for the first time this season at noon Saturday at Baldwin, and it surprises nobody that first place in Section 3-6A hangs in the balance.

Canon-McMillan has only played four games this season but has a 3-0 mark in section play.

Baldwin lost two of its first three games, but has won its last two by a combined score of 13-5 over Mt. Lebanon and Bethel Park.

The clash can be heard on the TribLive High School Sports Network .

Three for the show

It's makeup time around the WPIAL as the line separating the first half and the second half of section play is a bit blurred.

Three diamond dandies in Class 6A and 5A will take place Saturday.

Rivals Penn-Trafford and Norwin are set to meet in the first of two baseball meetings this season. Both the Warriors and Knights are 3-1 in Section 2-6A, one game behind front running Hempfield. Listen to the game at 5 p.m. on the TribLive High School Sports Network .

In Section 1-5A, Hampton visits Mars at 11 a.m., also on the TribLive High School Sports Network . The Talbots (3-2) are a half game behind the Fighting Planets (3-1) with both teams chasing North Hills (6-1) for the top spot.

In Section 3-5A, first place is up for grabs when Laurel Highlands visits Gateway. Only a half-game separate the two, with the Mustangs sitting in first at 6-0 and the Gators hot on their heels at 6-1. Franklin Regional is also in the mix at 5-1.

More Roundball

This spring has had the feeling of winter for nearly a month, so basketball action seems somewhat fitting. Day 2 of the expanded Roundball Classic takes place Saturday at Geneva College.

There are a pair of girls all-star games with the WPIAL 4A and District 10 stars facing the top players from 3A, 2A and A at 2 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by the 5A stars taking on the 6A stars.

Then the boys take the court with 4A stars facing the 3A and A top players at 6 p.m., and the weekend finale is the 6A stars doing battle with the 5A stars at 8 p.m.
