Spartans senior 4-peats in hurdles

Did Hempfield senior Bailey Traczynski pull off a first when she won her fourth consecutive 100-meter hurdles title at Saturday's Westmoreland County Coaches' Association track and field championships?
County track and field historian Roger Sullenberger says probably.
“That's a good question,” Sullenberger said. “I can't remember anyone doing it, but there might have been. I truly doubt that a boy has done it, but for the girls … ?”
Traczynski definitely became the first four-time winner in the same event since the meet went to Full Automatic Timing in 2007 when she breezed to victory at Latrobe's Memorial Stadium in the 96th annual boys meet and 39th girls event.
Her time of 14.73 set a meet record but not the stadium record of 14.67, which she set Tuesday in a dual meet.
“From my freshman year when I won, I made that a goal,” Traczynski said. “I told myself I wanted to win all four years, and I did it.”
Traczynski had a busy day. The Wheeling Jesuit commit also won the 300 hurdles, placed second in the long jump and was the leadoff runner in the 400 relay en route to earning Track MVP.
Traczynski said she ran a personal-record 46.5 in the 300 hurdles earlier in the week and hoped to do it again, but she ran a 46.76. She had a distance of 17 feet, 11 inches in the long jump.
“Overall, I'm pleased with my performance,” Traczynski said. “I felt really good, and I just wanted to come out and have a good day. The wind wasn't that bad, so I just went for it again.”
Traczynski wasn't the only record-breaker.
Hempfield senior Eudel Moreta set a meet and stadium record in the 200, and the Latrobe boys 400 relay team set a meet record.
Other double winners were: Moreta (100, 200), Greensburg Salem's Cameron Binda (1,600, 3,200), Norwin's Jessica Kolesar (long jump, 400), Hempfield's MacKenna Orie (shot put, discus) and Belle Vernon's Hunter Martin (110 hurdles, long jump).
The Hempfield boys won their eighth consecutive team title and 28th overall, and Norwin edged Hempfield, 105-100, for the girls title. It was the Knights' 11th team title.
