3 more WPIAL athletes claim top spot in state track rankings

After Saturday’s meets, Hunter Robinson, Noah Beveridge and Zach Gehm can say that nobody in Pennsylvania has either run faster or thrown farther than them.
The three WPIAL track and field athletes posted marks this weekend that rank them first in the state for the season. Robinson now leads in the girls 200 meters, Beveridge in the boys 3,200 and Gehm in the boys discus, according to Milesplit.com rankings.
In all, WPIAL athletes hold the state’s top mark in eight events.
Robinson, an Avonworth/Northgate senior sprinter, won the 200 meters in 24.40 seconds Saturday at the Pine-Richland Invitational. Thelma Davies of Girard College had the season’s previous best at 24.45.
Robinson already owned the state’s top girls 400-meter time at 56.20.
Beveridge, a Butler distance runner, won the 3,200 meters in 9:09.15 at the Baldwin Invitational. It’s his second state No. 1 ranking. The senior already held the season’s best time in the boys 1,600 meters (4:12.58).
Gehm, a Seneca Valley thrower, threw the discus 182 feet, 8 inches at Baldwin. The senior’s winning mark surpassed Selinsgrove’s Keith Dreese, who threw 174-2 last month.
Among the other state leaders, North Allegheny’s Ayden Owens improved on his season-best time in the boys 300 hurdles Saturday. He won the Baldwin Invitational in 37.33 seconds.
Mt. Lebanon’s Molly Mangan holds the state’s top time in the girls 300 meters at 43.87, while West Allegheny’s Maddie Salek leads in the 800 at 2:13.81. Each posted their mark last month.
