Yough hires Jim Nesser as boys basketball coach

Yough hired Jim Nesser, who first started coaching in 1988 at the school, as its boys basketball coach. He replaces Casey Copeman, who was not rehired after the 2017-18 season.

Nesser coached at Greensburg Central Catholic last season.

“I'm happy to be back,” Nesser said. “It was a tough decision to leave Greensburg Central Catholic, but it was a move I had to make. The people at Yough are tremendous, and I know the players are hard workers and tough-nosed.”

He previously coached at Hempfield, Jeannette, Elizabeth Forward and Penn State Greater Allegheny.

He was an assistant coach under his high school coach, Jim Farrell, for two seasons at Yough.

“We like his experience, and he teaches in the building. That was important.” Yough athletic director Tommy Evans said. “He's been coaching for 31 years.”

Nesser was a Greensburg Central Catholic graduate. He teaches social studies at the high school.

Evans said all coaching positions are opened after the season.

“I'm eager to get started,” Nesser said. “I know was starting a lot of underclassmen the past few seasons.”

Yough was 4-17 overall and 1-11 in Section 1-4A. GCC was 6-15 and 5-7 in Section 1-2A.
