Former NFL lineman Sciullo steps down as Deer Lakes coach

The jolliest green giant is moving on.
Steve Sciullo, the former NFL offensive lineman who led Deer Lakes to the second WPIAL playoff appearance in school history, resigned Monday after four years leading the Lancers.
Athletic director Chuck Bellisario confirmed Sciullo's resignation. No further details are available at this point.
Deer Lakes named Sciullo, 37, a Shaler graduate, coach in April 2014. The man who protected Byron Leftwich in college at Marshall and played for the Colts, Eagles and Carolina Panthers in the NFL, made rebuilding Deer Lakes' offensive and defensive lines one of his top priorities.
After a 1-8 debut season, that work paid off as a powerful offensive line — nicknamed the “Jolly Green Giants” — powered Deer Lakes to a WPIAL playoff berth in 2015. The Lancers finished 2-7 each of the past two seasons.
