Dr. Greg Bisignani is returning as Greensburg Central Catholic’s boys basketball coach.

The announcement was made by the Diocese of Greensburg on Friday.

Bisignani stepped away as head coach for one season. He replaces James Nesser, who resigned to take a job at Yough.

Bisignani compiled a 187-32 record from 2009-17. He is an orthopedic surgeon for the Excela Health Orthopedic Group in Greensburg.

“I was an assistant coach last year, so I never really left,” Bisignani said. “But I am excited to come back for one year to help provide a smooth transition for the kids in the GCC program.”

Greensburg Central Catholic athletic director Dan Mahoney added: “We are excited to have Greg back as our head basketball coach. His dedication, commitment and passion for the overall success of the school, not just one aspect of it, is embraced by the entire GCC community.”

The Centurions’ best season under Bisignani was the 2016-17 campaign when the team went 25-2, was a WPIAL tournament semifinalist and a PIAA tournament quarterfinalist. The Centurions made the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs during all eight seasons of Bisignani’s tenure.

In 2011, He led the Centurions to the WPIAL and PIAA championship games, and in 2014 the Centurions again advanced to the WPIAL title game.
