Shady Side Academy senior Emmie Lau is looking forward to her second year as a member of the cross country team.

In addition to cross country, she is on the basketball team in the winter and the lacrosse team in the spring.

“I started running cross country last year after doing crew for two years,” she said. “I got interested in running cross country because I knew that it would help me be in great shape for basketball and lacrosse.

“Also, the SSA girls cross country team had a reputation of being extremely supportive and a great group to be a part of.”

She enters the season with high hopes for her and her teammates.

“I am really excited for this year as we have some new freshmen that are going to help us be successful,” she said. “I think we have a shot at placing first in our section. I hope to beat my personal record on the Shady Side course as it was the most challenging course for me last year. Also, I would like to qualify for the state meet again.”

As it stands right now, this may be her final year competing in cross country.

“Of the three sports, lacrosse is my favorite and the one I concentrate on the most,” she said. “I’ll be continuing with lacrosse in college. I’m not sure what I will major in, but I definitely hope to continue learning Chinese in college”
