North Allegheny cornerback Joey Porter Jr., the son of former Steelers linebacker and current linebackers coach Joey Porter, announced Tuesday morning via Twitter that he has verbally committed to Penn State.

Porter, 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, is the ninth-ranked overall prospect in Pennsylvania and the 54th cornerback in the nation, according to Rivals.com. He is the No. 2 cornerback in the state, behind only Aliquippa’s M.J. Devonshire.

Porter, a three-star prospect, had announced earlier this summer that he was deciding from among Penn State, LSU, Miami, Nebraska and Pitt. He had 18 scholarship offers overall, according to Rivals.

Penn State has 16 prospects in its class of 2019, including 10 four- and five-star prospects.
