Baldwin’s boys golf squad qualified for the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs, finishing as the second-place team in Section 6 behind Mt. Lebanon.

The Highlanders posted an 8-2 record in section play.

Team members consisted of junior Matt Fediaczko, sophomores Connor Woods and Hunter Kozlowski, senior Tommy Ahlin and sophomore Keith Reed; along with juniors Chris Panza and Andy Degenhardt, and sophomore Dylan Stokes.

“Overall this year, we took a big step forward,” coach Steve Sinning said. “It is nice to see all the work in the offseason paying off with the team making the playoffs.

“With a young team, and a long offseason in front of us, we hope to build on our success.”

The Highlanders defeated Allderdice, Bethel Park, McKeesport and West Mifflin twice in section matches to advance to the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals.

Eight teams at two different sites qualified for the Class AAA playoffs. The top three at each site advanced to the finals held at Cedarbrook Gold Golf Course.

Baldwin, Belle Vernon, Central Catholic, Latrobe, Moon, Peters Township, Pine-Richland and Thomas Jefferson competed at Village Green Golf Course.

Central Catholic, Pine-Richland and Peters Township advanced to the championship round.

At Buffalo Golf Club, the eight-team field consisted of Blackhawk, Fox Chapel, Hampton, Mt. Lebanon, Penn-Trafford, Seneca Valley, Shady Side Academy and South Fayette.

Fox Chapel, Shady Side Academy and Seneca Valley moved on to the finals.
