Gateway moves to top of Trib 10 football power rankings

Every Tuesday during the 2018 WPIAL football season, the TribLive High School Sports Network releases weekly Power Rankings. These rankings have zero classification boundaries.

There was a big shake up among the elite teams during the second week of the district playoffs as nearly a third of the poll was eliminated.

Four WPIAL football teams that brought perfect records into the semifinals or quarterfinals tasted defeat, including top-ranked North Allegheny and the top seeds in Class 2A (Shady Side Academy) and A (Jeannette).

Their losses opened the door to three new teams in the rankings, as Seneca Valley, West Allegheny and Steel Valley crack the top 10 with only 16 WPIAL teams remaining in the chase for district gold.

With so few teams left, the Class 5A and 2A semifinals, along with the title games in the other four classes at Heinz Field, are dripping with four head-to-head contests.
