Player of the week

Jahmar Wright

Highlands, jr., WR/DB

Wright was right on both sides of the ball for the Golden Rams in last Friday’s WPIAL Class 3A first-round win at Southmoreland. He caught two passes from Menage Lucas for 55 yards. One of the catches was for 33 yards to get Highlands on the board in the first quarter. Defensively, he stopped two Scotties drives with interceptions and added six tackles. His four interceptions overall lead the team.

Players to watch

Braden Litwicki

Highlands, sr., TE/DE

Coming off the edge, Litwicki likes to create havoc in opposing teams’ backfields. He will get the chance to face Imani Christian for the first time as he missed the first meeting against the Saints because of injury. He also was out the next week against Deer Lakes. Litwicki is second on the team in tackles with 64, and he also is tied for second in sacks with four. He recorded a season-best 19 stops with a sack in the Golden Rams’ triple-overtime win over Elizabeth Forward.

Cole Troutman

Freeport, jr., OL/DL

Troutman has been a force in the trenches for the Yellowjackets’ defense, which has given up an average of just 18 points over 11 games. He is among the team leaders in tackles with 95, an average of 8.6 per game. He has spent a considerable amount of time in the opposing backfield and owns a team-best seven sacks. Troutman hopes to make an impact again Friday as Freeport pays a quarterfinal visit to No. 2 Central Valley.

Madden Wisniewski

Freeport, jr., WR/DB

Wisniewski has been a consistent target for quarterback Drew Ross throughout the season. He owns 19 catches for 220 yards and a team-best three touchdowns. Wisniewski produced season bests with four catches for 49 yards and a touchdown in a 28-7 victory over rival Highlands on Oct. 4. Defensively, he owns 39 tackles with one interception and two fumble recoveries.
