Player of the week
Nick Odom
Plum, sr., RB/DL
Plum was looking for a spark to its season as it was 0-3 heading into its Northeast Conference opener against Shaler last Friday. Odom helped provide that lift. He carried the ball 21 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-7 victory. Odom has 291 rushing yards on 69 attempts, an average of 4.2 yards.
players to watch
Darius Cherry
Highlands, sr., RB/DB
In Week Zero, Cherry carried the ball 10 times but only was able to collect 3 rushing yards in a wild overtime loss to Armstrong. Since then, he has made his mark. Cherry complemented quarterback Menage Lucas in the OT win over Elizabeth Forward in Week 1 with 126 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. Last Friday against East Allegheny, Cherry collected 144 yards and a score on 12 attempts and hauled in a 27-yard TD pass from Lucas in the 64-36 victory over the Wildcats.
Nathan Gebauer
Springdale, jr., RB/QB/DB
The co-captain has developed into a leader on and off the field, coach Chad Walsh said. Gebauer , Walsh said, has developed a comfort and confidence on both sides of the ball. He carried the ball 15 times for 75 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Brentwood last Friday and added a team-best 15 tackles. Gebauer hopes to be a factor this week as the Dynamos take on rival Riverview.
Rio Stotts
Riverview, jr., QB/ATH/DB
It wasn’t the result he or his teammates hoped for at Leechburg last Friday, but Stotts did what he could for his team in a 43-14 setback. Stotts completed 14 of 17 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown of 29 yards. Stotts also provided points for his team by returning a kickoff 78 yards to the end zone in the second quarter. He and the rest of the Raiders hope to get back on track Friday against Springdale.
