Player of the week
Carson Heinle
Kiski Area, sr., QB/DB
The veteran signal caller helped put his team in position to grab a victory Friday against Big East rival Franklin Regional. Heinle completed 16 of 27 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns and added 91 yards and a TD on nine rushing attempts in the 35-30 loss. He also moved atop the all-time Kiski career passing list with 3,753 yards. Heinle now holds nearly every Cavaliers passing record, including attempts (479), completions (278) and touchdowns (39). Through six games, Heinle has thrown for 892 yards and eight touchdowns.
Players to watch
Sean Selinger
Freeport, sr., TE/LB
A blocker and a pass catcher on offense and a run stopper and pass defender on defense, Selinger’s presence is felt all over the field each week. In Friday’s 48-20 victory over Valley, he had a 73-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter. He caught three passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in Freeport’s 42-0 rout of Burrell on Sept. 20.
Kaden Spencer
Knoch, sr., WR/LB
The Knights rolled to a 35-0 halftime lead against Indiana last Friday en route to a 42-13 victory that put a halt to a two-game losing skid. Spencer again was a reliable target for quarterback Codi Mullen with five catches for 78 yards and a 5-yard touchdown in the first-half uprising. Spencer hopes to again be an impact player Friday against Mars.
Zier Williams
Deer Lakes, sr., RB
Williams started the scoring Friday against Highlands with a 6-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Williams also helped cap a comeback from a two-touchdown deficit in the third quarter. He tallied the final two scores for the Lancers — TD runs of 2 and 3 yards — in their 27-26 homecoming win over the Golden Rams. Williams finished the game with 145 yards on 28 carries.
