MONDAY

Girls basketball: Freeport makes its third consecutive appearance in the WPIAL playoffs as the No. 4 Yellowjackets (18-4) take on No. 13 Quaker Valley in the Class 4A first round at 6:30 p.m. at North Allegheny.

TUESDAY

Boys basketball: A first-round bye didn’t help Fox Chapel in the WPIAL playoffs the past two seasons as it ended up losing in the quarterfinals both times. The Foxes (15-7), seeded sixth in the Class 6A bracket, will try their luck without the extra rest, against No. 11 Seneca Valley in a first-round game at 8 p.m. at North Allegheny. Fox Chapel beat the Raiders, 54-45, earlier this season.

Girls basketball: No. 11 Plum (11-11) will begin its postseason with a first-round game against No. 6 Thomas Jefferson (16-6) at 6:30 p.m. at North Allegheny.

WEDNESDAY

Boys basketball: Highlands advanced to at least the WPIAL semifinals in two of the past three postseasons, and the Golden Rams (15-7) will try to make another deep playoff run beginning with a Class 4A first-round game against Belle Vernon at 8 p.m. at North Hills.

Girls basketball: Deer Lakes made the postseason for the ninth time in the last 10 years, and the No. 7 Lancers (16-6) will try to make it a successful run beginning with a Class 3A first-round game against No. 10 Seton LaSalle at 6:30 p.m. at Fox Chapel.

THURSDAY

Boys basketball: Deer Lakes beat Charleroi in the WPIAL Class 3A first round, the No. 6 Lancers’ first playoff victory since 1985, and now they will try to advance further as they face third-seeded North Catholic in the quarterfinals at a site and time to be determined. North Catholic (19-4) beat Valley, 77-60, in the first round.

Coming off its first WPIAL playoff victory since 2011, No. 5 St. Joseph (18-5) will take on No. 4 Monessen (14-8) in a Class A quarterfinal match at a site and time to be determined. Monessen had the second-highest scoring offense in Class A during the regular season (74.4 ppg).

FRIDAY

Wrestling: The next stage of the Class AA individual postseason takes place as the PIAA Southwest Regional begins at IUP. The top five wrestlers from each weight class will advance to the PIAA tournament in Hershey in March.

Girls basketball: Fox Chapel, which earned the eighth seed in the Class 6A bracket, will face top-seeded Peters Township (22-0) in the quarterfinals at a site and time to be determined.

Diving: The WPIAL Class AA diving championships will take place at South Park.

SATURDAY
