Quarterfinals

Knoch (23-0) vs. Dover (16-7)

3:30 p.m. Saturday, Hollidaysburg High School

Winner plays : Winner of Warren/Thomas Jefferson

Coaches : Diane Geist, Knoch; Brett Hoffman, Dover

Players to watch : Kennedy Christy, Knoch; Emma Davis, Dover

Service points : Knoch began the defense of its PIAA title with a tighter-than-expected 3-1 victory over WPIAL fourth-place team Elizabeth Forward. The Knights dropped the first set before winning the next three to run their winning streak to 47 consecutive matches. Christy and fellow junior Hannah Rowe led Knoch with 14 kills apiece in the win over EF. The Knights have just one senior, setter Kerrie Fitzpatrick. Dover, the third-place team from District 3, upended District 5 champion Somerset in the first round. Like Knoch, Dover lost the first set but won the next three. This marks Dover’s first state playoff appearance since 2011, when the team also made the quarterfinals. Davis, an outside hitter, led the Eagles offense against Somerset with 17 kills.
