Four-time WPIAL champion boys basketball coach Nick Lackovich is out at Aliquippa after all.
In the conclusion of a three-week saga, the Aliquippa school board voted 5-4 on Wednesday night not to renew the contract of Lackovich, who also led the Quips to a pair of PIAA championships.
On May 21, Lackovich found out the school board had voted 5-3 to oust him from the position.
After public outcry, a special meeting of the board was held June 2 to reconsider. The board voted 4-3 to bring Lackovich back, but because one board member abstained and another was not present, the four votes were not enough to reinstate the coach.
At the regular board meeting Wednesday, the full nine-member board was present and voted 5-4 to end the coach’s tenure.
Lackovich compiled a 185-41 record in eight seasons as Aliquippa’s coach, including WPIAL and PIAA championships in 2024. The Quips went 23-6 last season while reaching the WPIAL Class 3A final and state semifinals.
