Belle Vernon senior Zion Moore, one of the WPIAL’s top basketball players, has committed to Harcum College in suburban Philadelphia.
Harcum competes at the highest level of junior college basketball, NJCAA Division I. The team has celebrated five top 10 seasons since the program started in 2005. Last season’s roster had players from six states and five other countries.
A 6-foot-2 guard, Moore averaged 24 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this winter and helped Belle Vernon win its first WPIAL title since 1978. He had 2,113 career points.
Moore was selected to the Trib HSSN Terrific 10 and was named TribLive Westmoreland Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
Harcum College went 23-7 last season and reached the finals of the NJCAA East District tournament. The program reached the NJCAA Final Four in 2013-14.
The school is in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
