Bentworth, Frazier’s Rune Lawrence lead WPIAL contingent at 2A regional wrestling

Bentworth led the WPIAL contingent by advancing four to the semifinals at the Class 2A PIAA Southwest Regional wrestling tournament Friday in Altoona.
Drake McClure (114), Chris Vargo (127), Owen Ivcic (145) and Vitali Daniels (189) are alive in Saturday’s semifinals. Only District 6 power Bishop McCort, with eight, has more.
Frazier’s Rune Lawrence got off to a good start in his bid for a fourth regional championship, pinning his two opponents in 15 and 18 seconds.
Teammate Ryan Celaschi (160) also advanced to the semifinals.
Five other WPIAL teams had a pair of wrestlers win their quarterfinal matches – Burrell’s Cam Baker (107) and Cooper Hornack (139), Burgettstown’s Parker Sentipal (133) and Gaven Suica (139), Central Valley’s Antonio Boni (121) and Brenan Morgan (285), Derry’s Anthony Mucci (114) and Mason Horwat (145) and Belle Vernon’s Kole Doppelheuer (145) and Elijah Brown (172).
The top six in each weight class advance to the PIAA championships March 7-9 at Hershey.
