Cami Fisher added yet another honor in her outstanding tennis career at Bethel Park.
The Bethel Park junior defended her Section 4-3A singles title Sept. 11 with a close 7-6 (7), 6-4 victory over Upper St. Clair freshman Brianna Kuczinski in the finals.
Fisher is the fifth girl in school history to win a singles championship in section play, joining Nicole Reynolds (1999), Kellie Schmitt (2001-02), Lizzy Yetiskul (2005-08) and Mia Gorman (2020-21).
“I’m very excited about winning the section back-to-back,” Fisher said. “It’s a huge accomplishment, and I hope to use it as momentum moving into the WPIAL tournament.
“My expectations for the rest of the year are to play my best tennis and help my team win the section and make a deep playoff run.”
The diminutive Bethel Park netter landed the No. 3 seed for the district tournament and was scheduled to face North Allegheny sophomore Mia Kaufman, the No. 14 seed, in the first round Sept. 17 at Bethel Park.
Fisher did not lose a game in advancing to this year’s section finals, blanking South Fayette’s Mia Ross, 10-0, Victoria Collins of West Allegheny, 10-0, and Peters Township’s Neve Zuzek, 6-0, 6-0. Ross, Collins and Zuzek are all juniors.
Last year, Fisher won the section crown as the tournament’s top seed, qualified for the PIAA Class 3A tournament with a third-place finish at WPIALs and saw her season end in the first round of states.
Fisher topped second-seeded Jackie Tang of Mt. Lebanon, 6-4, 6-0, in the 2024 section finals.
Bethel Park is having a banner 2025 season in girls tennis. The Black Hawks racked up a perfect 12-0 record through Sept. 15 with the majority of the wins by 5-0 scores.
Bethel Park clinched at least a tie for first place in the section with one match to go with a 5-0 victory Sept. 15 against Chartiers Valley. USC and Mt. Lebanon both had one loss with more matches remaining.
“Our team is performing very well,” Fisher said. “We have a lot of hard workers and positivity throughout our lineup.”
The top three singles players are Fisher, junior Mackenzie Smock and freshman Hadley Murello. Cassie Sierka, a junior, and Keira Ross, a senior, team up at first doubles. Freshman Julia Ross and sophomore Mia Hogue play second doubles.
Smock also advanced to the Section 4 tournament and won a 10-1 first-round victory against Allie Garcia of Mt. Lebanon.
Bethel Park seniors Elliett Briggs, Laura Casaldi, Samira Gorman, Madeline Masztak and Grace Perdziola have helped out in complementary roles this season.
Fisher & Co. advanced to the PIAA team tournament a year ago by finishing as the WPIAL runner-up in Class 3A. The Black Hawks beat District 10 champion Fairview, 4-1, in the opening round.
“We all battled in our matches and motivated each other to really push through,” Fisher said.
Bethel Park lost to District 1 runner-up Council Rock South, 3-0, in the PIAA quarterfinals to close out the season with a 16-3 record.
Fisher also was seeded third for last year’s WPIAL tournament. She rolled past Norwin’s Bayleigh Vilage, 10-1, and Pine-Richland’s Cassandra Lapina, 10-2, before losing a 6-2, 6-3 decision Penn-Trafford’s Mia Williams in the semifinal round.
As a freshman two years ago, Fisher combined with Lily Sierka to win the WPIAL doubles championship.
Fisher racked up a 28-7 record in her freshman season, finished 25-2 last year and won her first 15 matches without a loss in 2025.
