Clancy Orie is a 6-foot-3, 255-pound senior athlete at Bethel Park.

His twin sister — yes, his twin — Sadie stands 5-7 and weighs far less than her hulking sibling.

Both are 19 years old.

“We are very close since we grew up together,” Clancy said. “And we definitely love to compete against one another in basically everything.”

Clancy Orie, who played tight end and defense end on the Bethel Park gridiron, plans to continue his football career at the Naval Academy. He drew nearly two dozen college offers, including from FBS schools Akron, Air Force, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo.

He was a three-year starter and four-year letterman at Bethel Park and also has competed in outdoor track for four years.

“Clancy has been an outstanding representative of Bethel Park athletics,” athletic director Laura Grimm said. “He’s a dedicated and disciplined athlete who brings leadership and consistency to every aspect of his sport(s).

“His strong work ethic, team-first mentality and ability to lead by example have made him a respected and valued member of our athletic community. He’s the kind of student-athlete coaches love to work with — focused, coachable and committed to excellence both on and off the field. We’re incredibly proud of all he’s accomplished and know he’ll continue to excel at the Naval Academy.”

Orie, who also saw action at defensive tackle for the Black Hawks, considered attending other colleges including Ivy League schools and G5 programs. He was recruited to play defense at Navy, where he will major in economics.

“Navy has great academic and athletic opportunities,” Orie said, “as well as setting up students to be successful and set for life.”

Orie was named first team all-conference and all-state both as a junior and senior after being voted honorable mention all-conference as a sophomore.

He helped Bethel Park reach the WPIAL Class 5A semifinals last fall. On defense, Orie racked up 75 tackles, including eight sacks and 12 tackles for loss. On offense, the bullish tight end had 15 catches for 245 yards and three touchdowns.

As a junior, he had eight tackles for a loss and five sacks among his 65 tackles.

He was joined on the 2024 all-state team by senior running back Ja’Vaughn Moore, who rushed for 2,084 yards and 32 touchdowns for the Black Hawks and also caught 26 passes for another 398 yards.

Orie was the top thrower on the Bethel Park boys track and field team this season. He zeroed in on first place in the shot put event with a toss of 51 feet, 5 inches at the Mt. Lebanon Invitational, and finished fifth in the discus event.

A week later, Orie placed eighth in the discus at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association outdoor championship at West Mifflin with a throw of 128-8.

He then finished fourth in the shot put at the WPIAL Class 3A finals with a toss of 52-7.

Orie participated in indoor track for three years and basketball for one season. He said his dad has been the biggest influence in his athletic career.

And his best high school memories are tied to the Bethel Park football program.

“I would say my best memories are just having fun with my teammates during and after practices,” Orie said. “I think I will miss seeing my friends every day, especially those whom I’ve played sports with throughout high school.”

Sadie Orie was one of the team leaders in girls basketball at Bethel Park for the past two seasons.

Known as “Ms. Outside,” Orie and her senior frontcourt teammate, 6-foot Ella Sabatos, aka Ms. Inside, were two of the leading offensive threats and defensive stalwarts for the Black Hawks as juniors and seniors.

Orie served as an energetic “quarterback” in her team’s backcourt. She averaged 16.1 points per game during the 2024-25 regular season and dished out three assists per game.

She was a three-year starter for the Black Hawks and scored a career-high 35 points in January in a 72-61 win against West Allegheny.

The Bethel Park athlete plans to continue her basketball career at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a global leader in project-based learning located in Worcester, Mass., about 40 miles west of Boston.

Orie will major in management engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering.

“Sadie has been involved in our athletic programs throughout her time at Bethel Park and has contributed to her teams in meaningful ways,” Grimm said. “She has shown flashes of potential and has had moments where her athletic ability has positively impacted team performance.

“We appreciate her commitment to competing and being part of our school’s athletic tradition. Like all of our student-athletes, we recognize the unique journey each one takes and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

Orie and Sabatos were chosen to participate in the 21st Roundball Classic set for May 24-25 at North Allegheny as members of the Class 5A West girls all-star team.

As the 12th seed in 5A, the Bethel Park hoopsters celebrated Valentine’s Day this year by squeaking past No. 5 Franklin Regional, 46-45, in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs Feb. 14 in Murrysville.

It was the first postseason win for the Bethel Park girls basketball program since the Black Hawks defeated Norwin in 2021-22.

Orie also competed for her school’s track team, specializing in the 300-meter hurdles event.
