Eden Christian Academy erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third to cap a nine-run uprising over the first three innings as the Warriors cruised to a 10-2 victory in the WPIAL Class A third-place consolation baseball game Wednesday afternoon against Greensburg Central Catholic at Washington & Jefferson’s Ross Memorial Park.
Eden collected eight hits and four walks off Centurions starter Alec Martin, who was lifted for reliever Tyler Samide with two outs in the third.
The Warriors also took advantage of six GCC errors. Of the nine Eden Christian runs over the first three innings, only two were earned.
Brady Hull, Levi DeFazio and Josh Tilden each delivered a pair of RBIs for the Warriors, who reached double digits in runs for the 12th game this season.
Brett Feldman also knocked in a run for Eden, which was held hitless over 3 1/3 innings by Samide.
Samide struck out five and walked four in his time on the mound.
Warriors starter Noah Emswiler and reliever Christian Watkins combined to limit GCC to four hits and fanned 12.
The Centurions, who lost their second straight after a 12-game winning streak, tallied both of their runs in the third on an RBI single from Bobby Smithnosky and a run-scoring double from Anthony Grippo.
Eden Christian (16-5) opens the PIAA tournament Monday against District 9 champion DuBois Central Catholic.
GCC (18-4) will face District 10 champion West Middlesex on Monday in the state tournament.
