Brashear’s Tamara Humphries steps into semifinal spotlight at PIAA girls wrestling

HERSHEY – Brashear senior Tamara Humphries has been the talk of the PIAA Girls Wrestling Championship.

A day after defeating the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the state, she pinned her next opponent, Nanticoke freshman Emily Kivler, to reach Friday night’s semifinals at the Giant Center.

She’ll face Canon-McMillan sophomore Marlee Solomon, the West Regional champion.

Her coach, Sam Criswell, said things are coming together for Humphries.

Along with Solomon, the WPIAL advanced 10 others to the semifinals.

They are Montour junior Kristen Walzer (100), Knoch junior Braylee Ireland (118), South Park sophomore Anna Duncan (124), Moon sophomore Haley Smarsh (130), Kiski Area junior Ava Golding (136), Connellsville senior Jayanah Nobles (136), Trinity junior Elaina Ashby (148), Peters Township sophomore Liliana Giulianelli (190), Plum junior Alaina Claassen (190) and Southmoreland junior Zoey Murphy (235).

Six other girls earned medals. They are Fort Cherry’s Ella Trahan (106), Pine-Richland’s Aariona Strader (124), Laurel’s Maggie Alfera (136), Avella’s Abigail Dolanch (142), Norwin’s Karsyn Champion (155) and Valley’s Arianna Bernard (190).
