The Brentwood and Vincentian Academy girls basketball teams put on a shooting clinic Tuesday night in a nonsection game at Brentwood.

The two girls teams combined for 19 field goals from 3-point range, as the Spartans rallied past the visitors 53-50 thanks to a 17-9 offensive surge in the game’s final eight minutes.

Brentwood, ranked fourth in Class 2A, connected for nine treys overall, led by 5-foot-8 senior guard Anna Betz, who netted five triples and finished with a game-high 23 points.

Betz was complemented by senior guard Natalie Murrio with 14 points. Murrio gave the Spartans their first lead in the second half with a hoop at the 2:28 mark of the fourth quarter.

Senior point guard Abby Wolf scored just one point, but her clutch free throw late in the four period proved to be the game-winning point.

Vincentian Academy held leads of 14-12, 27-25 and 41-36 after each of the first three frames.

Three players reached double figures for the Royals, who were paced by 5-10 junior guard/forward Alana Winkler and 5-4 junior guard Sydney Calderaro with 16 points apiece.

Melina Cortex, a sophomore guard, chipped in with 10 points for the Royals, who racked up 10 triples in the game.

Calderaro accounted for four treys; Winkler had three.

Brentwood improved to 10-3 with its fourth consecutive victory and sixth in seven games.

Vincentian Academy dropped to 4-9 on the year.
