WPIAL champions Burrell (Class 2A) and Franklin Regional (3A) earned home matches Tuesday in the PIAA team wrestling tournament.

Burrell will face the winner of the Penns Valley and Quaker Valley match at 6:30 p.m. Penns Valley is the District 6 runner-up and Quaker Valley finished fourth in the WPIAL.

WPIAL runner-up Derry travels to Fishertown in Bedford County to battle District 5 champion Chestnut Ridge.

McGuffey, the WPIAL third-place finisher, will face District 10 runner-up Corry at Bishop McCort in Johnstown. Corry defeated McGuffey, 34-30, on Dec. 26. The winner faces District 6 champion Bishop McCort.

The PIAA quarterfinals, semifinals and finals are being held at Altoona High School on Friday and Saturday. Teams hoping to advance to the quarterfinals must win in the first round.

Class 3A champion Franklin Regional will host the winner of City League champion Obama Academy and Norwin. The first match is at 6 p.m. and the first-round match is at 7 p.m.

Franklin Regional defeated Thomas Jefferson, 37-36, in the WPIAL semifinals and then upset Connellsville, 32-25, in the finals. The Panthers defeated Norwin, 28-19, on Jan. 22 to win the Section 9 title.

Norwin was rooting for Franklin Regional on Saturday so it could get another shot at the Panthers.

“Norwin is well-coached and a good team,” Franklin Regional coach Matt Lebe said. “I’m sure it’s going to be a great battle.”

Norwin lost to Connellsville, 40-18, in the WPIAL semifinals.

Connellsville will travel to DuBois on Tuesday.
