Steve Ansani was approved Tuesday as Burrell’s new wrestling coach by the school board.

Ansani was an assistant coach under Josh Shields, who resigned after the season to spend time with his family.

Ansani, a 1978 Valley graduate, coached at his alma mater. He also coached at the Mat Factory wrestling club in Lower Burrell.

While Shields resigned as head coach, he said he’ll still be involved with the program.

Ansani takes over a program that has dominated Class 2A wrestling in the WPIAL. The Bucs are defending team champions and have won 18 WPIAL titles, including 15 in a row from 2007-21.
