Burrell hockey has had a dominant 15-0 start to its PIHL Division II season, and recently the program found out it will get to display its talents on a national stage.
The Bucs learned a couple of weeks ago they were selected to play in the USA Hockey High School National Championships on March 28-April 1 in Cleveland.
“I think in the last couple years people have noticed how well our program has developed,” junior forward Tyler Stewart said. “We want to be the team that has a bulls-eye on our back that people want to play, because we’re the best.”
Burrell, which is in its third season back at the varsity level, will play in an open division at nationals similar to PIHL’s Division II for programs that pull players from more than one school district.
The Bucs are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase the program in a major event.
“We want to show everybody that we have a competitive team that can compete against the rest of the country,” Burrell coach Max Rickard said. “It’s not something that too many programs get to say they get to go to, so we’re taking it very seriously along with the rest of the preparation for the remaining PIHL season.”
