West Virginia, Penn State and Duquesne had offered Ethan Morton a basketball scholarship, along with Purdue, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa and a few others.

Add Pitt to that list.

Newly hired Panthers coach Jeff Capel extended an offer Friday to the 6-foot-5 sophomore point guard from Butler. Morton is the first WPIAL player recruited by Capel, who was hired last week.

“Grateful to have received an offer to Pitt from Coach Capel,” Morton announced in a Tweet on Friday night.

Morton averaged 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for Butler (18-5), which reached the WPIAL Class 6A playoffs. He’s a well-rounded player who had 32 blocks, 55 steals and shot 81 percent from the foul line (172 of 212).

He also holds scholarship offers from Cleveland State, Miami (Ohio) and UAB.
