Central Catholic, Derry move into Western Pa. coaches’ boys volleyball rankings

North Allegheny and Shaler didn’t budge from their top spots as the Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association released its latest WPIAL boys volleyball top-10 rankings Monday morning.
The Tigers remained No. 1 in Class 3A and capped the week with a runner-up finish at the prestigious Koller Classic on Saturday at Central York High School.
Latrobe, Seneca Valley and Pine-Richland each maintained spots two through four, respectively, followed by Butler, Penn-Trafford, Mt. Lebanon, Hempfield, Canon-McMillan, and the debuting Central Catholic at No. 10.
Seneca Valley went 11-1 in games Saturday to defend home court and win its tournament.
Shaler and Ambridge held on to the top two spots in Class 2A with Seton LaSalle, North Catholic and Thomas Jefferson at No. 3 through No. 5, respectively.
Mars is at No. 6 followed by South Fayette, Hopewell, Montour and Derry.
Each week throughout the season, all 45 boys volleyball head coaches will have the opportunity to cast a ballot for the top-10 rankings and also nominate players for each classification’s players of the week
