Asked what he will miss most about the Norwin boys soccer program, Scott Schuchert said, “The players and the traditions.”
A successful 14-year run had plenty of both.
Schuchert resigned this week after leading the Knights since 2012.
He said he wants to spend more time with his family: his wife, Caitlin, and three children, Wyatt, 13, Scarlett, 8, and Stella, 6.
“They are all growing up too fast,” he said.
Schuchert, a proud 2001 alum who wore his fiery passion on his sleeve, never missed the WPIAL playoffs and had a record of 177-70-18. He posted double-digit wins in 13 seasons, including a 17-win year in 2023 when Norwin won its first WPIAL championship and reached the PIAA semifinals.
This season, Norwin finished 11-5-3 after a shootout loss to Plum in the WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinals.
Schuchert, a Slippery Rock alum, followed in his father’s footsteps. Rege Schuchert was a longtime coaching director for the Norwin Soccer Club.
Scott Schuchert’s staff the past few years included his wife, Caitlin (Martz), the former Plum and Lock Haven standout.
Schuchert leaves a perennial contender that appears to be in a good place.
“I want to thank everyone in the Norwin community and school district and coaches for their support throughout my journey,” Schuchert said. “A special thank you also goes to the players. I have been fortunate to coach some of the best athletes and human beings in the world.”
Norwin also had a WPIAL runner-up finish under Schuchert in 2018.
“I loved my time coaching at Norwin,” Schuchert said. “I can’t wait to support as a fan.”
