Chartiers-Houston Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap

Prior to Chartiers-Houston’s Class 1A Section 3 matchup with Burgettstown at home Tueday, Oct. 18, the Lady Bucs took a step back to honor the seniors on the team on Senior Night.

Chartiers-Houston recognized the two seniors on the roster for Burgettstown, Claudia Werner, who didn’t play in the match due to injury, as well as Paige Sherman.

Then the attention turned to the three honorees for the Lady Bucs, Raven George, Macie Kesneck and Jala Youngblood-Walker.

Once the ceremony wrapped up, CH’s attention turned to a must-win match against the Blue Devils. For CH, at 6-6 in section 3 entering the night, it was a must win game, as Brentwood and Avella are in front and were playing the two bottom teams, Sto-Rox and Northgate, in section play. Brentwood has tiebreaker head-to-head over the Lady Bucs, while CH and Avella split the season series 1-1.

Youngblood-Walker made an impact early with four kills in the first set as the Lady Bucs cruised to a 25-10 set win to start the night off.

Burgettstown would respond in the second set by winning a back and forth game, 25-21.

In the third set, Chartiers-Houston would dominate again, winning in the end 25-14 to take a 2-1 sets lead.

With a chance to close the match and keep their playoff hopes alive in the fourth set, the Lady Bucs came up short, falling to Burgettstown in the set 25-23, sending the match to a 15-point, deciding fifth set.

After a run that turned a 2-0 Burgettstown lead into a 6-2 CH lead, Burgettstown would battle back, making it interesting, before a service error by Olivia Resnik gave a 15^th point to the Lady Bucs as well as the winner-take-all set and match to Chartiers-Houston.

Junior Madison Simpson made an impact with several service aces in the match as well did Kesneck, who had three kills, back-to-back-to-back in the fifth set, among others in the match.

For the Lady Bucs, the focus now shifts to section frontrunner Fort Cherry Thursday, in another must-win match against a team, in FC’s case, who is coming off a loss to Bishop Canevin in a match Tuesday, Oct. 18. Fort Cherry will be playing for a conference title, while CH will need a win and an Avella loss to keep their hopes alive for the playoffs in Class 1A.

But at least for the night, Kesneck, Youngblood-Walker and George can enjoy a win in the final match the trio will play at Char-Houston High School; it’s a win… on Senior Night for the three and Lady Bucs.
